I made a list with a friend the other day of all the jobs he didn't like doing or had put off for more that a month. Turns out, given half the chance he'd never open another envelope in his life and don't get me started about my hatred for ironing. I am sure I'm allergic to it! He on the other hand, relishes a pile of crumpled laundry and literally loses himself in the heady mix of steam and lavender water!
We then made a fantasy list of all the things we'd love to give someone else to do if we had the budget of Elton John. What both lists boil down to is that we all obviously have different likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses and these factors determine what we will and won't enjoy doing in our spare time. Time is so precious, no one want to waste it doing stuff they hate. Usually what you like doing is what you are good at. So it makes sense to give the stuff you don't like doing to someone that does. You just have to be honest with yourself about what you can and can't do.
This month I have had the privilege to organise a rather amazing wedding (shout out here to the happy couple Uma and Graham), sorted out a forgotten loft, tidied an unruly kitchen, rescued a dying cherry tree and helped get the right long overdue healthcare cover for a wonderful lady.
Now, in spite of popular belief, I am no super woman! But I do seem to love a lot of jobs that other people hate. Sometimes I can't rescue everyone and do everything so I have a phone full of numbers of great people who can do the jobs I would be wasting my time trying to do (more about these special people coming soon!). You see, even the organiser needs help sometimes. The clever bit is knowing when and where to get help from. You know that there is never enough time to do everything.
So, if you have a job that needs doing that even the thought of doing sends you into a spin, give me a call. Unruly wardrobes and piles of paperwork are just some of the jobs that make me want to get stuck in and all whilst having a laugh doing it. Let's embrace our differences and pass on the jobs we hate. I bet at least one of your hates is my love!
